Vehicles in German City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Officers reported they were notified by a resident who noticed a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then located many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police report initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.

A senior political figure said the vandalism left him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.

"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
